Signs your heating system needs a flush
- Radiators cold at the bottom or with cold spots
- Radiators taking a long time to warm up
- Dark or dirty water when you bleed a radiator
- A noisy boiler that’s banging, kettling or gurgling
- Frequent boiler breakdowns, pump failures or blocked heat exchangers
- Heating bills rising without a change in how you use it
How a power flush works
A power flushing machine is connected to your heating system and circulates water with cleaning chemicals at high flow through the pipework, radiators and boiler. Loosened sludge and debris are flushed out to drain until the water runs clean.
The system is then refilled and dosed with inhibitor, and we recommend fitting a magnetic filter to catch any debris in future. Our water quality test during a boiler service tells us whether a flush is actually needed. We won’t recommend one if it isn’t.
Magnetic filters: cheap protection for your boiler
A magnetic system filter sits on the return pipe to your boiler and captures the black iron oxide sludge that damages heat exchangers and pumps. We clean it at every service, and many manufacturers require one to be fitted for their extended warranties.
