- Leaks, drips or water under the boiler
- Kettling, banging or gurgling noises
- Radiators not heating up or cold spots
- Frozen or blocked condensate pipes in cold weather
Before you call: quick checks
Some problems have a simple cause. It’s worth checking these first, but never remove the boiler casing or attempt a gas repair yourself:
- Pressure: most combi boilers should read around 1–1.5 bar when cold. If it’s below 1, the system may need re-pressurising.
- Power and timer: check the boiler has power, the fused spur is on, and the programmer or thermostat is calling for heat.
- Gas supply: make sure other gas appliances work and your meter has credit if it’s prepay.
- Frozen condensate pipe: in freezing weather, a gurgling boiler with a fault code often means the external pipe has frozen. Pour warm (not boiling) water along it, then reset the boiler.

Repair or replace? Straight answers
If your boiler is worth repairing, we’ll repair it. If it’s older, parts are hard to find, or the repair would cost a significant share of a new boiler, we’ll tell you honestly and set out the options. You make the decision, with no pressure.
Many breakdowns are prevented by an annual service. Our standard boiler service is just £85, and it catches worn parts, blocked condensate traps and sludge before they leave you without heating.
If you smell gas
Don’t use electrical switches or naked flames. Open doors and windows, turn off the gas at the meter if it’s safe to do so, leave the property, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 (free, 24 hours). Once the supply has been made safe, we can investigate and repair the fault.
